It would be a fallacy to just link ‘blockchain’ buzzword to cryptocurrency application. The blockchain is a mathematical and cryptographic concept that can be used to solve many problems in many industries including the energy sector. The concept uses a distributed ledger that is decentralized, transparent, and safe. Transactions can happen directly and digitally between two parties that can be instantly verified using the distributed ledger. This avoids the cost of needing third parties to record and keep the ledgers.
One can argue that whoever processes (hashes) the transactions/blockchains to update the ledgers can be thought of as a third party. However, the processing is distributed, decentralized and democratic. There is usually the benefit of mining value in tokens/currencies/incentives for processing and clearing/verifying the transactions. This helps make the system automatic once there is a larger adoption and value realized. As many ledgers keep the records it is very difficult to tamper the data and verification from the third party is not needed as a transaction can be verified by the blockchain ledger data that is difficult to produce fraudulently.
With so much hype in blockchain, it is a due time that it is being used to actually educate and learn, not just the blockchain technology itself but any learning at all. A new platform LiveEdu is trying to become the next youtube for learning and leveraging the blockchain technology for payments and rewards. This is a neat idea.
LiveEdu is a Y-combinator company. Batch Summer 2015. That makes them credible and they are currently offering a token sale to help fundraise for their envisioned platform. The webpage lays out all the details on how raised funds will be used and a roadmap.
LiveEdu positions itself to be an online education platform that teaches college students and professionals who have passed the beginner stage how to build complete products.
They want to use live (so the name LiveEdu, I guess) and video tutorial learning platform where content creators teach learners how to build real products from the fields of Programming, Design, Data Science, Game Development, AI, VR & AR, Cryptocurrency to name a few.
Online learning is a very important part of the evolution of the rapidly developing technologies. Many resources have been spent on improving and making learning and sharing knowledge effective. The field has a huge potential. The online learning industry is huge, some estimates show it a $40 billion-plus market. No wonder Lynda.com was purchased by LinkedIn for $1 billion plus a while ago.
Well, there are existing learning platforms. However, the payment and reward system integrated to position themselves for future makes LiveEdu one of the first blockchain online learning platforms. Next-gen Lynda.com.
This creates a huge potential to connect content creators (streamers) to learners (viewers) who teach them how to build complete products. Also, for being a Y-combinator company, the team behind then LiveEdu has a lower risk. Do your due diligence but this looks promising to me.
